Our next meeting will at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 11th at the Creative Treehouse in Bellevue.
First, Jason Head will be presenting “10 Ways to Provide Top-Notch SEO Without Doing any Extra Work!”* Clients are always asking “how can I make it into the search engines”. I’ll show you how you can get results for your client by following rules of web standards, good design and taking advantage of one or two free tools along the way.
(* Well, maybe a little bit of work…)
Next, Founding Developer and CEO of JoinSources, LLC, Don Charlton will be joining us to show a very impressive project he has been working on here in Pittsburgh: Join Sources. For this presentation, “Let’s JoinSources and Conquer Web Content” Don demos a new Web-based CMS meant to equally empower Web site developers, designers and their clients. They’re also giving away free hosting and CMS usage to 50 JoinSources recruits who develop a site on the beta platform.

New Leadership Announcement and Introduction
Event Planning for 2008
First Round on Us!
It has been an eventful year and we would like to cap it off with one final meeting event before we all get Holiday Party-ed out. We have some announcements to make regarding the new leadership of our chapter, and we will also be doing some planning for next year’s events. So please come by and have a drink with us, say “Hello” to our new chapter leaders, and let us know what you would like to have happen in 2008.
Hope to see you all there! Cheers!
Regards,
Tony Shoemaker, IDSA

Good design is more than just looking good. AIGA Pittsburgh’s Designer Dialogue program is a series of frank and open discussions, for AIGA members only, about what really goes into making design happen. Presenters will be talking about projects in-depth, providing a behind-the-scenes look into design goals and fruition - successes, failures, research, processes, and results.
Host: The Bank of New York Mellon
Presenters: Dave Vissat, Kurt Valenta and Steve Farrar
Case Study: Beyond brand standards: how a brand’s character shines through every project. We’ll take a look at a number of very different projects for Zippo to illustrate how an agency and client can work together to make sure a brand’s true essence can rise above budget challenges, language differences, retailer mandates, and whatever else stands in its way. All it takes is a little creative thinking, a lot of great design and the freedom to invent opportunities every now and again. Join us for the fun.
Location: 11 Stanwix Street, Fifth Floor

Technical Writers write, yes – but producing information requires a number of other tools that aren’t specifically publishing tools. We need to create and edit graphics, create wikis, manage knowledge – as well as perform more non-traditional functions, such as creating audio files and icons. We can also be required (or desire) to set up systems for backing up our machines, managing source control of our documents, and bug tracking.
This talk will discuss and demonstrate a number of low cost (or free) tools that technical communicators can use to perform a variety of tasks, including: graphic/screen capture creation and editing, icon creation and more!
