What is Pecha Kucha Night?
Pecha Kucha Night is a place for young artists, architects and interactive designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each – giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show.

Pecha Kucha (which is Japanese for the sound of conversation) has tapped into a demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown, without having to rent a gallery or chat up a magazine editor.

RIA Jam (Ann Arbor, MI, USA)

Sunday, January 6th, 2008 by Keith Instone
January 14, 2008toJanuary 16, 2008

The RIA Jam is an exploration of Rich Internet Application programming, with Bruce Eckel, James Ward (Adobe), and Josh Holmes (Microsoft).

Browser-based technologies have shown extreme limitations in capabilities, the quality of the resulting user interface, and consistency across platforms. In addition, Internet latency issues are intruding more and more on the end user. This Jam explores the different technologies available for solving these user experience problems with Rich Internet Applications (RIAs). Beginners through advanced programmers are welcome.

When musicians have a jam, they get together and explore music without knowing exactly where they will end up. When programmers have a jam, they get together and explore new technologies in the same way. A programming jam is a very informal workshop to explore and learn about a particular technology. It’s better and more fun than struggling with it by yourself. In a jam, you can explore whatever you want, however you want. We provide space, time, camaraderie, and whatever expertise we have among us. You may work individually or in groups. Although there is plenty of educational material, there is no set agenda. You work on whatever interests you, at your own pace.
