Farewell, UXNet (Baltimore, MD, USA)

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010 by Jim Jarrett

Unfortunately, this organization, its site, and any other elements are passing into the digital beyond.  Individuals may continue on, maybe even sustaining the name, URLs or whatever.  I had a short but fruitful stint here as ambassador for Baltimore.  I’ll now be investing my free time and efforts into helping make Baltimore Parlay a continuing success. Good luck to everyone, and all you locals, come on over to Parlay!

With respect to everyone involved with UXNet, and apologies to Monty Python:

UXNet is a dead parrot.
I know a dead parrot when I see one, and I’m looking at one right now.
The plumage don’t enter into it.
It’s stone dead.

Welcome to Baltimore, MD, USA

Thursday, August 13th, 2009 by Jim Jarrett

Hello everyone!

I recently took on the role of local ambassador for the Baltimore UXNet locale, tag-teaming the region with the ambassador for Washington, DC, Olga Howard.

This region is dynamic and engaging for UX professionals.  We have a large ecosystem of universities and colleges with design, psychology, and other programs - even game design.  Hundreds of software and IT firms.  And many dozens of independent UX consultants in the area.  Others of us labor away in UX roles at private-, public-, and non-profit-sector organizations, making life better through design, whether it is for new products, government services, or IT systems.

There are a number of organizations that operate locally to support and evangelize UX-related work, including regional chapters of UPA, IxDA, and IGDA.  I’m sure there are many other organizations that fit in the UXNet umbrella.  Please get in touch with me and let me know how we can promote and support your work!

I personally want to be connected to all the UX people and activities in the region.  My work often takes me elsewhere, but I am grounded here as my home.  Let’s work together to make these connections.  I’ll make this UXNet locale a place you can rely on to find out what’s going on and who’s out there.

Cheers!  I look forward to meeting, working, and playing with all of you.

Baltimore Comic-Con (Baltimore, MD, USA)

Thursday, August 13th, 2009 by Jim Jarrett
October 10, 2009toOctober 11, 2009

Join us at the 10th annual Baltimore Comic-Con, one of the largest comic conventions in the country.  Meet comic artists, participate in panel discussions, buy comic collections and other swag, and mingle with visual storytellers and their fans.

Comics play an emerging and exciting role in User Experience.  A key moment in their influence was the publishing of Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics in 1994, and there has been a recent explosion of using comics to explain complex technical concepts.

Come see what this art, craft, and community is all about.
