¡Bienvenidos a Panamá!
Panama is a small locale; UX is still not a well-known concept in Central America, although we’re trying to change that. We organized what is probably the first UX gathering in the region in January, 2007, and are planning another event like it early next year.

Thirty-five web designers, developers and even some executive-level folks gathered on January 25 to talk about user experience. Discussions included a case study of work in redesigning the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute’s website, a talk on designing for kids and how to improve the usability of blogs. It all sounds like another interesting local gathering, but this one was a bit different: it was in Panama. Jorge Arango, the UXnet Local Ambassador for Central America organized what may be the first UX-oriented gathering in Central America.

The UXcamp even caught the attention of Global Voices, a site that aggregates the global conversation online, reaching beyond the UX community. Jorge, Stephan Schwab, Leon Kadoch, and Miguel Rodriguez (in Spanish) also blogged the event.

There is already talk of doing more events like it, and building the UX community in Central America. Anyone interested in helping organize things locally should contact Jorge.
