The Joint Conference on Digital Libraries (JCDL) is the major international research forum focused on digital libraries and associated technical, practical, and social issues. JCDL encompasses the many meanings of the term “digital libraries”, including (but not limited to) new forms of information institutions; operational information systems with all manner of digital content; new means of selecting, collecting, organizing, distributing, and evaluating digital content; and theoretical models of information media, including document genres and electronic publishing.

Topics related to user experience include: content; services; system design; interface design; human-computer interaction; evaluation of usability; multimedia; social, institutional, and policy issues; user communities.

Join us for the Information Architecture Summit ‘09 Recap at Wayne State.

The 10th Information Architecture Summit will be March 20-22 in Memphis, The IA Summit is the premier event for the IA community and represents the state of the art of the field. Hear from people who attended this session to get an overview of what happened at the conference and what you need to know as an information architect in today’s rapidly changing world. Check out the conference program and come prepared to ask questions about what intrigues you. Panelists will talk about their favorite (or least favorite) sessions from others and may talk a little about what they presented at the conference.

Join us for a holiday party at Garden Bowl, sponsored by the Wayne State Chapter of ASIS&T.

Garden Bowl is located on Woodward in Downtown Detroit, close to the Wayne State Campus in the Majestic Theatre Center. It is the oldest active bowling alley in the United States!

We are reserving space for a large group that will include pizza, salad, munchies, soda, and beer. If you would like to hang out with us, or come and meet new people plan on bringing $23 (cash please) with you. This cost will also include three hours of bowling and shoe rental.

The First Annual ASIS&T Social Computing Summit will bring together researchers and practitioners of social computing for two days of discussion and exploration in Miami, Florida. The event will directly precede the 2008 Information Architecture Summit, providing attendees a complimentary opportunity to learn about and discuss emergent areas of social computing and software. The Social Computing Summit will feature a keynote addresses from Dr. Nancy Baym, Associate Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Kansas, and Thomas Vander Wal, principal consultant at InfoCloud Solutions.

Social software and computing drives Web 2.0 technology, enabling global connections and providing rich social experiences. Social networking services challenge established notions of privacy, identity and relationship management. Beyond the browser, mobile devices promise new forms of ubiquitous connectivity and presence, offering unprecedented research and business opportunities. To understand the successful applications of tomorrow, we come together today to share research and insight. This summit aims to bring together thought leaders, developers, and scholars working in this rapidly changing area, facilitating the conversations required for tomorrow’s innovations.
