INTERACT 2009 (Uppsala, Sweden)

Sunday, February 17th, 2008 by Conference Editor
August 24, 2009toAugust 29, 2009

INTERACT 2009, sponsored by IFIP, will be August 24-29, 2009, in Uppsala, Sweden. Conference Theme: Research and Practice.

The INTERACT series of conferences has been one of the driving forces behind the HCI field for many years, and over time much research has entered the INTERACT Conference proceedings. In Scandinavia, the HCI research tradition has always had a strong connection to working life, and the aim to produce practical assets for software design has been one important issue in the research.

But how does research and practice cope in 2009? Is research going into practice, and are practitioners looking into research for their answers. The relation between theory and practice is an old issue, and despite this, one that is becoming increasingly important. Has HCI been able to contribute to better IT use in practice? Are the existing methods and tools for the design of usable systems sufficient or is there a need for new or better processes, methods and tools for systems development in practice? INTERACT 2009 provides a meeting ground for practitioners and researchers, where research and methods can be discerned and discussed, with mutual benefit.

HCIEd 2008 (Rome, Italy)

Friday, January 11th, 2008 by Conference Editor
April 2, 2008toApril 4, 2008

HCIEd 2008 is the annual international conference of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) educators. It will be held in Rome, Italy, from April 2-4 (just before the CHI 2008 Conference in Florence).

HCIEd 2008 will promote a discussion on the evolution of HCI education towards a more holistic vision requiring a stronger dialogue between a variety of disciplines. This is in reaction to the demand of new curricula to equip practitioners and designers of the future with the necessary skills to cope with developments in, amongst others, mediated communication that is increasingly becoming ubiquitous, embedded and ‘wearable’ and tends to be part of complex interactive systems that populate co-evolving spaces.

We wish to enrich and integrate our knowledge of the design processes that are used in the various design domains (process control, consumer electronics, architecture, product design, fashion design, software engineering, etc.), by peeling away the domain specifics, identifying what is universal and what is different, and what common methods and tools can be identified. We would like to investigate how to better handle and integrate the border conditions impacting on our domain (educational policies, social environments, political issues, ethics and acceptability, role of industry, etc.) and the influence of cross-cultural issues.

We therefore invite educators, researchers, designers and developers from a variety of domains to attend and take part in HCIEd 2008: computer and information scientists, engineers, product, graphic and interaction designers, architects, social scientists, ethnographers and anthropologists, etc.

EIS 2008 (Pisa, Italy)

Thursday, January 10th, 2008 by Conference Editor
September 25, 2008toSeptember 26, 2008

Engineering Interactive Systems 2008 combines the 2nd Conference on Human-Centred Software Engineering (HCSE 2008) and the 7th International workshop on TAsk MOdels and DIAgrams (TAMODIA 2008).

HCSE 2008 is a working conference that brings together researchers and practitioners interested in strengthening the scientific foundations of user interface design, examining the relationship between software engineering and human-computer interaction and on how to strengthen user-centred design as an essential part of software engineering process.

TAMODIA 2008 is an international workshop on tasks, models and diagrams. It focusses on notations used to describe user tasks ranging from textual and graphical forms to formal descriptions and even interactive, multimodal and multimedia tools.

HCIS-2008 (Milan, Italy)

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008 by Conference Editor
September 7, 2008toSeptember 10, 2008

The 1st IFIP Human-Computer Interaction Symposium, HCIS-2008, will be held in conjunction with 20th IFIP World Computer Congress (a combination of twelve technical conferences).

The domain of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is a multidisciplinary, active and focal area of both research and industrial application. As the influence and use of computing capability grows, so does the recognition that computing systems will be required to conform to many other criteria than simply those of computing performance. The criteria of usability, acceptability, user satisfaction, accessibility and suitability for user and organisational needs are some of those which are particularly the province of experts in Human-Computer Interaction.

The 1st IFIP Human-Computer Interaction Symposium attempts to bring the various fields together and will highlight the research and industrial importance of the Human-Computer Interaction area and its most recent breakthroughs on current applications. Topics:

  • Methodologies for user centred system design
  • Human-Work Interaction Design
  • User interface engineering
  • Accessibility and disability
  • Human error, safety and system development
  • Education in HCI
  • HCI in Ubiquitous Environments
  • Cultural differences in HCI
  • Ambient intelligent environments
  • Human-computer dialogue system

Organized by IFIP Technical Committee 13 Human-Computer Interaction.
