Greetings from London!

Thursday, November 29th, 2007 by Deirdre Devers

Hello,

My name is Deirdre Devers and I currently work in the area of gaming and user experience. However, I’ve also worked on improving the user experience in 2D online spaces.

As you can imagine, in a city as vibrant and cosmopolitan as London, there are plenty of arenas (e.g. eCommerce, multi-user virtual environments) in which user experience is central.

I plan to keep you abreast of UX-related events in London as well as posting resources that may of interest to your practice.

I recognise that there are a variety of people who may be practitioners, academic and students (and sometimes encompass all three roles simultaneously!) and I will work to offer content that is useful to all. Whilst I do have some ideas about some of the topics I’d like to post about, I am always open to suggestions. Please feel free to get in touch.

Before I sign of, I’d like to thank all UX contributors for making UXNet such a great online space.

All the best,

Deirdre

Many of you know that our DC Area UX community is incredibly active. In the next few months I’ll be taking time to review our local UX-related organizations in an effort to help those seeking advice, networking opportunities, and work in this field. If you have an organization in mind that would be interested in a small review please send me a note (olga [at] olgahow [dot] com). Until later…yours truly. Olga.

Welcome to the Honolulu Locale

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007 by Michal Anne Rogondino

Aloha!

Unbeknownst to many people, Hawaii actually does have a rich and diverse technology community. Although, it seems that this community does not get together regularly for events. User Experience is not a common topic for local software events when they do happen in Honolulu, so I will be taking it upon myself to be a representative for this important aspect of our industry. There are a handful of online forums for the technology community in Hawaii and as I review them I will post their links. I know there are people in the Hawaii technology community who value User Experience, and it’s time to get us together and start to collaborate!

Please let me know if you are aware of any events or links that are missing from the Honolulu locale.

Mahalo!

Welcome to Lisbon, Portugal

Monday, November 26th, 2007 by Bruno Figueiredo

The only User Experience community in Portugal right now is with the Portuguese Usability Professionals Association with about 50 registered members and 200 mailing list subscribers. I’m their current President.

We run several events throughout the year, including a big conference around Easter. We also gather informally about every 3 months.

We are not affiliated with UPA but we are starting to build a local chapter with them. We are also looking to gather more people that run some mailing list groups.

If you’re interested in User Experience and you live in Portugal, drop me a line.
